Het Red Bull-team, tot nu toe ongeslagen dit Formule 1-seizoen, moest voor het eerst dit jaar buigen voor zijn rivalen. Max Verstappen, die eerder een record van tien opeenvolgende overwinningen boekte, eindigde slechts vijfde tijdens de Grand Prix van Singapore. Een dramatisch einde van de race zag Ferrari's Carlos Sainz winnen. De 29-jarige Spanjaard zegevierde in de nachtrace op het circuit van Marina Bay en versloeg McLaren's Lande Norris met slechts 812 duizendsten van een seconde. De derde plaats ging naar Lewis Hamilton.
