Bien qu'il ait eu desdifficultés avec une Mercedes assez peu compétitive, il a tout de même réussi à gagner sa première course à Interlagos, au Brésil, et même à battre Lewis Hamilton au classement général, ce que seuls Jenson Button et Nico Rosberg avaient réussi avant lui.
